Commons Beach Park

This four-plus-acre park is located on the Lake in downtown Tahoe City. Commons Beach Park is popular for sunbathing, swimming and picnicking. Group picnic sites and children's playgrounds are located within a large lakefront grass and sand area.

After over 120 years of local and visitor use, Commons Beach has been rehabilitated and enhanced to accommodate environmental restoration, protection, and public access. Commons has served many purposes for the community from a transportation hub with shipping and train tracks, to private commercial enterprises, to a local post office, jail, firehouse, and finally a community park. Despite all of these uses, comprehensive planning and restoration had never occurred at this key site. In 1998 the TCPUD began working with the community to develop a strategic plan that would restore, protect and enhance this public park facility located in the heart of Tahoe City.

Construction began in 2002 and was completed October of 2003.

Several alternatives are available for public recreation. Please see the list of other public facilities available for beach access, playgrounds, and picnic sites in the activity catalog. A facility map is also available in the catalog and on the web for exact locations of these facilities.
