Tahoe Cross Country Lodge Replacement and Expansion

The existing Tahoe Cross-Country Lodge, which also serves as the Highlands Park and Community Center, is owned by TCPUD and operated by the Tahoe Cross-Country Ski Education Association, under a Concession Agreement with TCPUD. The existing lodge is located at 925 Country Club Drive within the Highlands Community in Tahoe City, CA, and the proposed Project involves replacing and relocating the lodge to a site off Polaris Road adjacent to the North Tahoe Middle/High School.

The purpose of the Project is to reconstruct a facility by re-using and re-purposing the historic Schilling Lodge in an effort to better serve year round recreation activities and services. The Project will address existing operational deficiencies relative to circulation and parking, storage, staff facilities, and community space, better accommodate existing and projected recreation demands, and improve the quality of the recreation user experience at the lodge. The planned use of the new lodge is for public enjoyment of winter Nordic skiing and summer hiking and biking activities. Moreover, it will continue to serve as an education resource and provide enhanced community space. Additional uses, as determined by the TCPUD, may also be proposed.

The TCPUD Board of Directors certified the Project’s Environmental Impact Report on February 25, 2021. Since then, the TCCSEA has been preparing design plans, submitting permit applications, and conducting a fundraising campaign. On January 19, 2024, as part of the fundraising plan, the TCCSEA requested the TCPUD provide a phased funding commitment. Phasing a funding commitment will help build capital campaign momentum and increase incentive for both private donations and other public funding.
