Multi-Use Trail Reconstruction Project
Project Overview
The Multi-Use Trail Reconstruction Project started with a study of TCPUD’s 23 mile multi-use trail network. The study identified and prioritized trail sections to be rebuilt. Reconstruction will improve pavement conditions and the user experience.
In 2026, the District will reconstruct approximately 1.4 miles of trail between Sunnyside and 64-Acres. Originally built in the 1970s, the West Shore Trail has benefited from TCPUD’s ongoing preventative maintenance, but after nearly 50 years, a full reconstruction is necessary.

Project Overview
TCPUD is investing $4 million to reconstruct 1.4 miles of trail between 64-Acres and Sunnyside in 2025.
Reconstruction will:
- Pulverize and repave approximately 80% of this trail section
- Widen the trail to nine feet where feasible
- Add new signage, striping, railings, slope adjustments, and other safety enhancements
Project Status
5/28/26 - Crews continue to work on the segment from the Highway 89 roundabout to Granlibakken Road. Repaving of this section is expected to occur the week of June 1.
For the week of June 8, construction will progress to reconstructing the section of trail between Granlibakken Road to Cathedral Drive. Trail detours will be available in the adjacent neighborhood as shown on the map below.

- 2025 West Shore Trail Reconstruction
Project Overview
TCPUD is investing $4.8 million to reconstruct 2.4 miles of trail between Sunnyside and Blackwood Creek in 2025. Originally built in the 1970s, the West Shore Trail has benefited from TCPUD’s regular maintenance, but after nearly 50 years, a full reconstruction is necessary.
Reconstruction will address pavement failure, slope and alignment issues, visibility (both vehicular and pedestrian, safety, ADA compliance, and drainage.
Project Status
10/13/2025 - We're proud to announce that we've completed reconstruction of 2.4 miles of the Dianne Feinstein West Shore Tahoe Trail from Sunnyside to Blackwood Creek! Contractors are now putting the finishing touches on sections of the trail.

- 2024 North Shore Trail Reconstruction
Project Overview
TCPUD prioritized the North Shore Trail as the first phase for construction due to its existing condition, high use, and to coordinate with a Caltrans Highway 28 construction project. TCPUD invested $3.2 Million in reconstruction of the North Shore Trail in 2024.
The Project included safety enhancements such as painting driveway crossings and installing additional signage. Pavement restoration included patching, sealing, and repaving. We also realigned sections of the trail to make them safer.
Project Status
We are pleased to announce that the North Shore Trail Reconstruction Project is now complete!
The project, which began in June 2024, involved reconstructing and repaving more than two miles of trail, installing 125 safety markers, signs, and poles, and realigning critical segments of the trail. This work was done to make the trail safer and smoother for all users.
We deeply appreciate our community's patience and cooperation while we upgraded this vital recreation infrastructure for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.
